Harry Markusse - Rush Hour
"In the last few years my work has become increasingly rhythmic and direct. I work more effective and faster, nonetheless there is always room for research, experimentation and the occasional inevitable failure. Even outside the studio I experience the constant feeling of movement and rush. More and more it seems that daily life and working at the studio is in a constant state of rush hour. This experience of chaos, speed and constant input seeps down into my work.
In these new paintings shapes like streaks and bands criss-cross over the image. These bands remind us of roads, traffic flows, congested highways in American movies. Like observing the entire roadmap of Los Angeles from above. Even the choice of colours in the new work appears to be influenced by my daily life."
