Ballon Rouge presents new work by Vivian Ammerlaan and Dineke Versluis, two artists who explore landscape through layered photographic processes.
Inspired by a journey through the Rocky Mountains in 2025, Vivian Ammerlaan developed a new series of large-format cyanotypes. Working with negatives of imagined landscapes and toning the images with tea and coffee, she creates compositions in which deep blues merge with earthy brown hues. Traces of the making process—stains, frayed edges, and unpredictable effects—remain visible, evoking both the vastness of the landscape and the artist’s intimate presence within it.
In her ongoing project 'Connecting Landscapes', Dineke Versluis examines visual associations found in archival imagery. By reusing and transforming existing material, she constructs new connections and perspectives. In her Post Studies, photographs are reshaped through layered editing into carefully balanced compositions. For this presentation, the works are shown framed and on a larger scale, revealing the subtle complexity of her process.
