For Art Rotterdam, Annet Gelink Gallery presents a duo-booth featuring Ryan Gander and Helen Verhoeven. While their practices remain formally and conceptually distinct, the presentation brings their works into dialogue through a shared engagement with the visual legacy of art history. Both artists begin from a close analysis of canonical images, figures, and gestures drawn from iconic works and artists of the past, approaching these references not as quotations but as material to be re-examined, displaced, and reconfigured within contemporary contexts. Through painting and sculpture respectively, Verhoeven and Gander revisit historically charged motifs and archetypal figures, probing how images circulate, acquire meaning, and persist over time.
At the fair's Sculpture Park, Meiro Koizumi’s BOR (2024) explores the fragile boundary between human and machine, while in the Projection section, Marijke van Warmerdam’s Fast Forward (2016) transforms the act of travel into a poetic journey where the process outweighs the destination.
