It was certainly not the case that Kees de Vries had Marga Knaven's work in mind when creating his series of paintings. And Marga Knaven had already laid the foundations for the series we are showing in this exhibition during an artist residency at Jingdezhen Taoxichuan International Studio in 2024. (Fun fact: she won first prize at the 22nd Biennial de ceramic d'Esplugues with this work).
But still. When you see the work of both artists together, a vibrant interaction emerges. The new context gives the work a new meaning. Each painting, each piece of ceramics, is an autonomous work with its own story, a powerful image. But when they come together, something new emerges, something poetic, something beautiful.
