Micha Patiniott is a painter of the subcutaneous — of that which lies dormant beneath the surface of everyday life and is rendered visible in his work.
Patiniott’s paintings explore the twilight zone between appearance and disappearance, object and subject, the self and the other. As if apparent reality slowly crumbles before our eyes, making way for an alternative mode of perception.
In the exhibition Double Skin, the works are arranged so that we gradually descend with Patiniott into the subconscious. The artist reveals that behind the “subcutaneous” there is always something more to be uncovered: a layer beneath the layer.
