Furthermore, this year marks Nijburg's 25th anniversary of teaching at the academy. His first year at the Minerva Academy in Groningen (2000-2001) and, from 2001 onwards, at ArtEZ in Arnhem, where he studied Fine Art and DBKV. These two events prompted Art Gallery O-68 to give Nijburg a platform, along with his soulmate and 25 of his former students.
A Syzygy is an arrangement in which two or more planets, stars, etc., are in a straight line. This situation creates extra energy. For example, when the moon is in Syzygy with the sun and the earth, noticeable gravitational effects can occur. The exhibition will be a Syzygy.
Nijburg is certainly not interested in the "influence" he's had. He feels privileged to have met and experienced these artists, and to have been able to coach them a little on their journey through the galaxies. He says: "It's never about transmitting. I rather try to suppress that all-too-human urge, because one-sided transmission is more likely to be harmful than harmless. The most beautiful thing is receiving and transmitting simultaneously, which also helps me on my pilgrimage through the cosmos." The exhibition therefore presents an incredibly diverse picture, with each artist primarily forging their own path.
