“Synonymous Shapes” was the title of a joint exhibition by Tomasz Ciecierski and Natalia Załuska, which Le Guern Gallery presented during Warsaw Gallery Weekend in 2023. In 2024, Tomasz Ciecierski passed away. We would like to pay tribute to this outstanding Polish artist, who for years was also associated with the Dutch art scene, and show a new version of this intergenerational dialogue. Natalia Załuska’s and Tomasz Ciecierski’s artistic approaches, both focused on the medium of painting, share a passion for collage and a reflection on the creative process. Załuska's works are abstract in form, while Ciecierski was keen on synthesising shapes, photographs and language. One of the recurring themes in Ciecierski's work is the depth of the horizon. Załuska focuses on the issue of space within the painting and in relation to its surroundings. The conceptual foundations of Ciecierski's painting challenge the viewer like an intellectual puzzle. In Załuska's work, the narrative inspiration for collage paintings is more veiled. We would like to invite the viewer to further explore the forms and shapes of their mutual flows and close meanings in the artistic practices of Natalia Załuska and Tomasz Ciecierski.
