Katrin Korfmann – Augenblick
Bradwolff & Partners is proud to present Augenblick, a solo exhibition by Katrin Korfmann, where new and existing works come together. Korfmann delves into the boundaries of photography, playing with the illusion of reality. A photograph serves as a representation of a space and time that no longer exists—or perhaps never existed. Through this exhibition, she invites the viewer to pause and reflect on the moment—the fleeting, captured, and reinterpreted now.
Korfmann's work operates at the intersection of time, space, and social interaction. She explores how urban spaces are appropriated and transformed, raising questions about our relationship to them. Her practice examines three dimensions of time: the time of creation, where the technical and creative processes behind the image take centre stage; the time of representation, where photographs function as cultural reflections; and the time of experience, where the viewer encounters the image subjectively.
In addition to her photographic works, the exhibition also features a video installation. This adds an intense and dynamic layer to her exploration of time, space, and human movement, while emphasising the transformation of public spaces.
Recent works, such as images of freerunners in Amsterdam and surfers in Munich, highlight the ways people navigate through the city. She reveals how public spaces are not only used but are constantly changing. At the same time, she questions the social structures that shape these spaces, challenging the classic photographic ‘decisive moment.’ In an era where imagery is increasingly driven by algorithms and virtuality, Augenblick emphasises the need for reinterpretation. Her layered compositions not only invite observation but also encourage reflection on the dynamics of our surroundings—an invitation to dialogue.
Katrin Korfmann (b. 1971, Germany) grew up in Berlin and is a visual artist, researcher, and educator based in the Netherlands. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, was a resident at the Rijksakademie, and is currently conducting PhD research at Leiden University and the KABK, where she also teaches.
Korfmann has received several awards, including the Prix de Rome (2nd prize) and the Esther Kroon Award. Her work is held in international collections and has been exhibited at venues such as the Nederlands Fotomuseum, Kunstmuseum Den Haag, and Aperture in New York. She has also completed public commissions for, among others, Schiphol Airport, the Rijksgebouwendienst, and the Province of Stockholm.
Additionally, from 15th March to 29th June 2025, Korfmann’s work will be featured in Endurance (Doorzetters) at the Noordbrabants Museum. This exhibition explores the boundaries of the body, movement, and mental discipline, connecting art and sport. Curated by Ranti Tjan and designed by Trapped in Suburbia, it also includes works by Greg Colson.

"Embodied Photography" featuring works by Dieter Appelt, John Coplans, and Ulay, curated by Katia Krupennikova.
"Embodied Photography" is a selection of works from a private collection, presented in the back space of the gallery and curated by Katia Krupennikova. The exhibition explores the relationship between the body, the photographer, and the viewer. Artists like Dieter Appelt, John Coplans, and Ulay place the body at the core, using it as a site of transformation and negotiation, challenging traditional ideas of representation and perception. Through photography and performance, they examine themes of impermanence, identity, and the interplay between presence and absence, highlighting the boundary between documentation and embodied experience.
