...that’s how the light comes in
At Luxembourg Art Week, edition 2024 Eva Steynen Gallery presents a colorful group exhibition with paintings by Johannes Ulrich Kubiak, Wannes Lecompte and sculptures by Ken'ichiro Taniguchi, three artists with an international background and that strongly represents the philosophy of the gallery.
Each artist, in their own specific way, approaches the world with a certain thoughtful slowness, reflecting on the the relation between perception and seeing.
“We live in a world that we always tend to forget”, as Merleau-Ponty notes in 'Observing the World'.
The works of Wannes Lecompte, Ken’ichiro Taniguchi and Johannes Kubiak come together not only in their formal complementarity, but above all in their perception of what there is and the way how things appear to them. The concept of ‘seeing’ as a dynamic relationship with the world.
Taniguchi makes poetry out of the cracks made through bursts of time, Lecompte’s more organically formed paintings start in what occurs on the canvas and Kubiak's more formal approach of structure and colour.
