We are very proud to hereby announce Thomas Verstraeten's new exhibition. It is his second solo exhibition at FRED&FERRY . This exhibition comes about in close cooperation with Toneelhuis.
Visual artist and theatre maker Thomas Verstraeten will be working on a series of urban projects over the next few years. Inspiration for his creations are recognisable urban scenes, all kinds of events and detailed observations of urban public space.
In September 2023, together with about five hundred local residents, Verstraeten created the seven-part location project Seefhoek Series, an ode to the hyper-diverse neighbourhood in the north of Antwerp. The project tried to penetrate the soul of a city neighbourhood. It was a meditation on a resilient but abandoned neighbourhood.
In November 2024, Verstraeten will make an exhibition about Seefhoek Series at FRED&FERRY. Using videos, photographic material, models and installations, he will re-examine Seefhoek Series and try to uncover new layers of meaning of the project. The seven performances, which were originally scattered in different locations and at different times, now come together in the exhibition space and really enter into a dialogue with each other.
In the exhibition, Verstraeten shows us, through magnifications of reality, the undeniable complexity of life in the city. Equally, he makes us witness to both the fragility and the vitality of the city.
The exhibition is free to visit at Fred & Ferry from 23 November (vernissage from 2pm to 7pm) until 21 December 2024. The gallery is open on Friday and Saturday from 1pm to 6pm. Leopoldplaats 12, 2000 Antwerp.
