Every year it is a treat to walk around the graduation shows of the art academies. This year there were 3 artists whose work particularly appealed to me: Kyara van Meel, Afroditi Terzi and Rafaëlla Witteman
In Kyara van Meel's oil paintings, she chooses to visualize chains of different images. Micro and macro worlds are intertwined; plants, fruits and romantic landscapes are the focus of her inspiration.
Afroditi Terzi's work focuses on the intersection of textile craft and painting, through which she explores landscape and the theme of relationality. Combining sewing with water-based painting, she seeks the interconnectedness, complexity and fluidity within the landscapes we live in, which not only refers to geographical spaces, but also takes on emotional, psychological or physical dimensions.
Born in 1995 in Voorburg, the Netherlands, Rafaella Witteman developed a fascination for nature at an early age. She continued her passion for art at the HKU in Utrecht, where she refined her skills and deepened her exploration of memory and nature in her work.
