We participate in Art The Hague 2024 with artists Annebel Bruschinski, Louise te Poele and Maaike Kramer. Booth 33, Location: Fokker Terminal, Binckhorstlaan 249, Den Haag
Annebel Bruschinski (1998) explores the transition between life, death and the afterlife. Annebel deconstruct and reconstruct, visualising the cycles of loss and renewal, life and death. Through their work, Bruschinski uncovers the relationship between us and our clothing. Though seemingly lifeless, textiles are witnesses to our lives, bearing marks of care and neglect. What stories do these objects hold? Do they long for a different existence beyond their functional roles? Through the process of breaking down and rebuilding, focusing on the seams and hidden parts of clothing, the work shown reveal the untold stories of textiles. Bruschinski's work encourages reflection on themes of waste, consumption and control.
Louise te Poele (1984) draws her inspiration from contemporary life, where the boundaries between real and fake - between the physical and the virtual are becoming increasingly blurred. She uses seemingly ordinary – everyday objects, with which she manages to create a world of wonder. Her work is a plea to look at the world around us with new eyes, to find the extraordinary again in the ordinary. Her vision is: ‘looking at the world around you with those eyes, leads to concentrated attention and ultimately to a caring relationship with the world.’ This is how she gives her perspective on the topic of what we need for wellbeing.
Maaike Kramer (1986) invites us to contemplate on the nature of construction, the role of men in shaping their environment, and the contrast between the transience of ideas and the durability of materials. She incorporates different stages of the creating process into her work: from the monumentality of the final work, to the materials and methods that lead up to it. Examples include sketches, documentary photography, and scale models in combination with concrete, steel, and scaling up. Maaike Kramer was one of the four nominees for the NN Art Award, 2024.
