The work of two engaged artists comes together in an exhibition in which the theme of mourning is central. Both artists investigate the way in which grief and processing loss is part of their lives, which often results in autobiographical work in which tranquil emotions form an important part.
For the series 'Out of sight, into the heart', Tahné Kleijn photographed herself and her family members, each in their own way dealing with the recent loss of their mother, grandmother and partner. With this series, Kleijn creates a universal view on the theme of grief. Kleijn's series is a tribute to 'our mom'.
Next door, meter-sized canvases of red-dyed cotton flutter loosely in the room. The canvases are drawn with chalk and colored pencil and show the naked self-portrait of a collapsed person. Lise Lou Sore captures the sadness caused by loss on a monumental scale. In this way, Sore makes the viewer share in emotions of pain and sadness.
