“And this too shall be forgotten” is the title of the exhibition and of a work by Rick Koren: a telephone receiver, facing the wall, lying on a pile of yellow fabric. The act of forgetting could refer to the conversation via the old-fashioned telephone receiver, the artwork itself, or the entire exhibition. Being forgotten is our fate, as Chekhov made clear with his statement, “everything will be forgotten,” whether not now, then later. This exhibition serves as a reminder of this, with several works referencing past or futile attempts at communication.
Koren is a master in the use of various materials. He effortlessly combines wood, metal, ceramics, textiles, glass, wire, and communication cords. The result is always an object of wondrous beauty with a poetic expressiveness.
