As an artist-anthropologist, Kyra Sacks undertakes an exploration of drawing as a method of inquiry in research. She observes and draws 'out there,' in the midst of reality. The works shown at our project space draw inspiration from her field sketches, providing a window not only into the lives of others but also into Kyra's own experiences. The collection is based on fragments of images and words she gathered over the span of a year during projects in The Gambia, Chile, Austria, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands. A common thread she found weaving through the drawings is the experience of displacement and the search for a sense of belonging.
