We are excited to announce our participation in Art Rotterdam 2024 and we are looking forward to welcome you at our Solo / Duo booth 77. For this edition we are very pleased to present a duo with works by artists Bert Frings and Bas Louter.
On view is an installation by Bert Frings (living and working in Rotterdam and former participant of De Ateliers). Frings experiments with a new arrangement of his dozens of still lifes. This installation is based on his recent exhibition for the Dolf Henkes Prize 2023 at TENT, Rotterdam.
The work of Bert Frings contemplates the coexistence and fleeting nature of objects, animals and people, shining a spotlight on the casually discarded or commonly encountered items in his everyday surroundings. In his still lifes, he artfully blends these elements with objects from his youth, unveiling and amplifying concealed emotions, associations and meanings. His artistic exploration raises an intriguing question; Where is the boundary between consumption and the ethics and meaning of objects primarily marketed for their function. (text Annosh Urbanke, curator at TENT)
The installation will be accompanied by drawings made by Bas Louter (living and working in Los Angeles and former participant of the Rijksakademie).
There has been an ongoing dialogue for many years between the artists Bas Louter and Bert Frings.
Bas Louter makes black and white drawings using airbrush technique. The repetitive and mechanical nature of these works seem to echo the industrial and mechanized features of a colossal city, a place where memory is erased and movement and failure are in a constant cycle.
