For Art Antwerp 2023, DMW brings together three artists to share a booth: Antwerp-based Ignace Cami, Belgian-born Bram De Jonghe, who lives in the Netherlands, and Dutch Kaspar Dejong. Individually, the artists already have a strong track record of presentations, exhibitions and installations in several galleries and institutions. The shared booth allows the works of Igance, Bram and Kaspar to interact organically. DMW will be featured in Booth B02.
The presentation at Art Antwerp will involve a total installation of Bram De Jonghe's sculptures, an event by Ignace Cami and Kaspar Dejong's paintings. Ignace will host his happening I'll explain everything to the geese (2022) during the fair’s opening day. In contrast, Bram and Kaspar will show new work in line with their previous oeuvres. In his paintings, Kaspar Dejong emphasises composition, (lack of) colour and texture to depict the transience of human processes. Bram De Jonghe's sculptures and installations border on the absurd while celebrating man's inventive do-it-yourself attitude. The tension between the presentation of these three artists' works creates a whimsical interplay within the walls of the same booth.
The interdisciplinary practice of Ignace Cami (b. 1986, BE) takes folk culture as a starting point to make objects, sculptures, installations and writings. He is keen on activating the contemporary meaning of local history. He graduated in 2012 with a Master of Sculpture from PXL-MAD, Hasselt, and in 2019 with an Advanced Master of Research in Art and Design from Sint Lucas Antwerp, Antwerp. His upcoming projects include collaborations with Abby Kortrijk (BE) and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (NL). Work by Cami is held in the collection of M HKA (BE).
In his work, Kaspar Dejong (b. 1995, NL) shows a fascination for the desire to make a mark. From a background in graffiti, Dejong researches these markings and happenings in the modern urban landscape. He graduated with a Master's in Fine Arts from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam in 2021. Dejong received a grant from the Mondriaan Fund in 2022 and was nominated for the Buning & Brongers Prize and Sluiters Prize in the same year. Work by Dejong is held in various private and public collections, including the collection of Nationale Nederlanden (NL), DSM Art Collection (NL), MUMC Maastricht (NL) and Dagblad de Limburger (NL).
Bram De Jonghe (b. 1985, BE) works mainly as a sculptor, creating spatial interventions that probe the boundary between art and reality. At the crossroads where those meet, something absurd arises. Bram believes in man as a creator, solver, and finder, and he favours the visual residue of do-it-yourself spirituality, renouncing an elitist definition of art. De Jonghe graduated with a Master’s in Sculpture in 2007 and a Master’s in Visual Design in 2009 at Sint-Lucas, Ghent. De Jonghe was winner of the Volkskrant Visual Arts Prize (2015). He won the public art commission Just a Few Seconds (2022) to create a site-specific installation for the building of the Haagse Hogeschool (NL). Work by De Jonghe is held in private and public collections, including the Fries Museum (NL) and the Ahold Collection.
