In an artist’s studio, many artworks are lost, or “killed” as in the process of killing one’s darlings. In the same vein, certain studios, along with artworks created therein and particularly those owned by female artists, have also been “killed” in a metaphoric sense – overlooked and lost in the annals of history.
Le Studio Perdu masterfully deceives the audience, challenging what may appear obvious: the era depicted in the artwork, the artist’s identity, or even the role of the viewer. Simultaneously paying homage to the art produced by historical female figures, Marie Pop’s artworks stand as autonomous creations while also referencing the lost female talent in art history.
On the evening of the 24th June 2023 from 17.00 – 19.00, Contour Gallery is delighted to be hosting the opening of Le Studio Perdu, marking Marie Pop’s third show here with us.
