Looking Forward explores the recent work of two young Brussels-based artists in which both seek dialogue between figuration and abstraction. Joanna Kraszewska (1979) and Joachim Devillé (1978) share a common desire to question established structures and what impact they have on everyday life. The positive connotation that the title Looking Forward implies may therefore be understood with some irony; Between the lines of hope and the desire to look forward to something or somewhere lurks a menace and uneasiness. These are variously countered through diametric dialogues. Apart from balancing between figuration and abstraction, between colour and black-and-white images, past, present and future are strategically juxtaposed. They slide, shift, rub, collide and overlap.
