Maaike Kramer, with work from her residency at EKWC, 2022/2023,
Rozemarijn Westerink, with cyanotype work from drawings and video.
Lenneke van der Goot. In my drawings, I combine different techniques such as lithography, collage, pastel and ink. This creates layered works that are sometimes complex, sometimes clear. Contrasts and dualities are characteristic. Winning the Grafiekprijs Pim Olivier 2022 allowed me to work in the stone-lithography studio at the Grafisch Atelier Hilversum. The basis for the Connecting Pages series was created there. In this series a collection of images forms a whole. I reflect on the multitude of information and stimuli we are exposed to, which form parallel universes on many levels.
Maaike Kramer. Drawing and paper play a special role in Maaike Kramer's work. Fleeting thoughts that arise on paper are given a monumental charge in the work by pouring them in and printing them in hard materials. By combining monumental visual language with a sketchy visual language, she creates constructions that, in addition to monumentality, also contain doubt and reflection. At Art on Paper sketches on paper will be shown for the first time. Maaike also presents a series of new drawings on porcelain/paper that were recently created during a working period at the EKWC.
Rozemarijn Westerink. In the film 'Paysage', Westerink plays with the subconscious and the dream. The resulting images refer in an associative way to archetypal and animistic meanings that she makes visible by drawing layered landscapes with pen and ink. The drawings are scratched and cut, and the ink is applied layer upon layer on paper. In her recent work, a very direct line is added that depicts the physical; figures and body parts that use the landscape as their decor. Also new are the cyanotypes (blueprints) that Westerink makes from the film images, the results of which depend on experimenting with the power of the (sun)light outside.
