Solopresentation van Lotte Wieringa by New Art Section booth 1
which normally falls outside the field of interest, the periphery, is central to Lotte Wieringa's paintings. The works are full of scratches, scribbles and a box of tricks full of painting techniques. They are impulses, principles, rudimentary forms that are on the way to a new state. One quality of it is its incompleteness. There is a focus on the defenseless, worthless and insignificant. The work goes back to an act of writing before letters, alluding to words rather than making them. This is yet another proof that painting can be political. Not so much political in terms of subject matter, but in terms of the values and sentiments expressed by the paint.
Lotte associates figuration with the human perspective and makes this painter want to break away from the limited, small view of the world. In her most recent series of paintings 'Thèta Dream', Lotte Wieringa explores the possibilities that the 'intermediate state' can contribute to a collective transformation process, and from there open new levels of reality. To do this, she tuned in to brain waves from that strange state of being just before falling asleep or just before waking up: theta.
This instinctive painting tries to get beyond the outside, the surface, the skin, beyond what is known. The work invites you to dream and to travel towards an understanding of the world without naming its separate elements, where everything is connected and the world is full of possibilities.
