The drawings from the ‘TEAM APPELSAP 1419’ series refer to the First World War, which is inextricably linked to current events.
The visual language is simple, hard and raw. Made with only a graphite pencil, layer upon layer to obtain a strong contrast. The labour-intensive process is essential and it requires commitment to give them authenticity.
Some of the elements in the drawings come directly from Trench Art objects: a flower, a date, a four-leaf clover, a place name, a punctuation mark.
The large format of the drawings, 150 x 100 cm, was deliberately chosen because of the human scale.
The presence of man.
Always and everywhere.
