Andrea Radai (1964) lives in Amsterdam and was born in Budapest, Hungary. Radai creates oil paintings in a classical manner. With her work she tries to evoke a certain tension. She does this, for example, by taking film stills and texts out of their original context and showing them without any background information, or by combining text and image almost at random in one image. The 'paused' image offers the chance to finally observe quietly. Contrastingly, it is often the context such as a text or story that the viewer derives meaning from.
