For the solo exhibition SPLIID VERSUS SPLIID, Jaap de Ruig made seven monumental video installations, in which he does not go easy on himself. In his earlier work he mainly used animals to represent his themes, this time his own body plays the leading role.
In Split (the literal translation of the word Spliid), he lifts his own lying body off the ground, drops it hard and then lies down, while the fallen Jaap de Ruig meanwhile gets up, steps over his alter ego, picks him up and drops him again.
Due to their universal character, the installations can also be shown separately from the context. After the premiere in RAM, the exhibition have toured Europe, just as happened with The Power of Imperfection, Jaap de Ruig's previous solo exhibition.
