In his idiosyncratic paintings, Ad Gerritsen shows snapshots of individuals, one of the masks of that person, not just a mask, not just a 'persona' but THE persona, with which he generalises the portrayed person, allowing us to look at the human being, ourselves, in that one unguarded moment, the controversial aspects. Therein lies its strength. Many remember the exhibition in 'Kunstmuseum Den Haag' (formerly Gemeentemuseum) in 2018. With rooms full of paintings by Gerritsen, brought together from corporate and private collections. Gerritsen's heirs have made works available to Art Gallery O-68 for this sales exhibition of paintings depicting (in)dividuals. Aracelly says: 'Ad does not explain his work, he leaves you alone with the image. That's what I strive for, I learn from him."
In her videos and installations, Aracelly Scheper tries to unravel the unanswered questions about her Colombian background, her ignorance about her earliest history. For example, the question 'Where do you come from' evokes a feeling of split. What is your identity? In 'Het Gewilde Object', 'The Wanted Object' an installation of video, audio and graphics, she takes her own adoption as a starting point. From the personal point of view, she asks more universal questions about the way in which the transfer of a person is documented. Which words are used and what is the value of these documents in relation to who she herself is? Her work is about the charge of language, the personification of an object, and above all about the objectification of the human being, every human being.
