Lumen Travo Gallery is thrilled to present the new solo show by artist Jens Pfeifer, resulting from the visual research around the concept of transparency he has developed in these recent years.
Transparency is a layer which drifts over or in front of that what we want to examine and comprehend. Transparency only exists by the means of information that lay behind it. If not for those subjacent layers, there was no reasoning for transparency, there was no need for it. By itself, transparency is imperceptible, invisible, non-existent. By making things transparent, or adding layers of transparency, both in a physical and cognitive context, we inevitably create new layers of information, which consequently need to be observed. Transparency thus can create knowledge.
In his new artworks shown at Lumen Travo Gallery, Jens Pfeifer examines and visualises the phenomena of transparency by questioning its qualities and applying it upon the cultural, social or political context of the topic.
All material conveys its own information that, in Pfeifer’s work, relate specifically to the various characteristics of elements like wind, earth, water and their interconnecting energy.
The sculptural works offer the viewer an understanding of the interrelation between the different layers of information and knowledge between art, science and socio-politics, without revealing the mysterious sensation they comprise.
