We present a duo show with work by Marc De Blieck (° Sint Niklaas 1958), who lives in Ghent. At first sight, De Blieck's photographical oeuvre contrasts sharply with the verticality-oriented recent reliefs, drawings and sculptures of Wesley Meuris (° Lier 1977), who lives in Antwerp. Yet the oeuvre of both artists is subject to a form of romanticism. Marc De Blieck's photographic art works shown at Art Rotterdam are: "Misty forest landscapes, an illusionistic rococo ceiling, a lush bouquet of fake lilies alternate with an imposing rocky outcrop, framed or pinned loose on the wall in various formats, printed on folded Japanese paper. "(From: Inge Henneman - Like shining pixels - Hart Magazine). From Wesley Meuris we show the most recent works that focus on our expanded vertical view in space and time. His reliefs and sculptures already contain a nostalgia for the beginning of the new spatial era. What is the difference between an exhibition space, for example, that is designed to show off the artworks on display to their best advantage, and a space capsule that is designed to survive as efficiently as possible by placing the necessities or personal items on the walls of space capsules? Wesley Meuris' new reliefs and sculptures reflect this human desire. At the same time, they seem to connect to the abstraction of the avant-garde researches of the early 20th century.
