Baronian Xippas Knokke present a duo exhibition featuring artists Seyni Awa Camara and Olaf Holzapfel who both present a brand new series of works.
Seyni Awa Camara (b. 1945 in Bignona, Senegal) is a Senegalese artist from Casamance, who lives in a small village lost in the heart of the forest. Initiated by her mother to the traditional techniques of pottery when she was still a child, her artistic practice very quickly moved away from the utilitarian character of the object to assert itself as an aesthetic research on substance and form.
Olaf Holzapfel (b. 1967 in Dresden, Germany). As an artist born in a country that no longer exists, and whose coming-of-age involved crossing a border between the East-West divide of the Cold War era that is fast becoming a distant memory, Olaf Holzapfel, born in Dresden in 1967, has long been interested in boundaries, demarcations, and frontiers—or, more precisely, in interstitial spaces, what is possible in between.
