The front space of the gallery is home to an exhibition of new drawings by Teun Hocks. During recent isolation, Hocks started making large-scale drawings again from the comfort of his own home. The keen sense of narrative and comedic touches, always an integral part of his work, especially come to the fore in these simple yet surreal drawings. While Hocks is usually the actor in his own painted-over photographs, in his drawings he is free to invent other anti-heroes to act out awkward situations: a man walking a tightrope sloppily tied between a stool and a houseplant, a man raking leaves during a storm.
Teun Hocks (1947, NL) lives and works in central France and Rotterdam, NL. He is one of the founders and icons of staged photography in the Netherlands. His work is exhibited worldwide and is part of a large number of institutional and private collections.
