Ruben Dario Kleimeer abstracts Rotterdam in the series Imaginary Perspectives.
He photographs his hometown from his imagination.
The love for architecture and skateboarding come together through the crop and choice of image.
Ruben approaches his work with an almost dogmatic slant.
Balanced, sleek and abstracted from the environment. In an intriguing way, he focuses on special forms in Rotterdam.
The works have a strengthening effect on each other, in their subtle differences and yet also similarities.
The repetitive nature that this creates in the series has interfaces with the new objectivity in photography.
Ruben Dario Kleimeer is trained as a documentary photographer and has previously worked in Europe and China on his special architectural reflections. He decided to photograph Rotterdam, his hometown, in which he combines his architectural perspective with a background in skate culture. Ruben used an analog 4x5 ”camera for the series. It creates a narrative depth in the monumental black and white stills of the stone city.
Ruben “Skaters enter into a relationship with space and project their fantasy onto the elements. I try to capture that in my image.
Rotterdam is present in every photo, but not recognizable. In my work I appeal to the imaginative ability of the viewer. ”
