Time plays an important role in the work of Vincent de Boer and Katrien Vogel.
Vincent de Boer tries and repeats his movement until the right moment arrives to put his energy on paper in one flowing movement. If the idea is there, it can sometimes take weeks, maybe even months, of repetition of the movement before he makes his final work. Craftsmanship, care, movement. An artist where everything has to be right, from the furnishing of his studio, the choice of materials, the movement of his arm, the moment has to be taken. With one flowing movement of his brush the work is put down. The energy of the moment at which the drawing was made tells whether the work has succeeded.
Katrien Vogel plays with stories from the past in an interpretation to the present. Her work is based on old forms and customs, translated into contemporary materials and a contemporary visual language. The forms, often with an at first sight similar movement to the brushstrokes of Vincent de Boer, are built up part by part and connected with each other. She takes her time, as the basis of her work is laid by images and customs from earlier times. And then it is best to take your time to conscientiously shape your story.
