"After the women's movement erupted in the Western world in the 1960s and the backlog and exclusion of women was raised, the question quickly arose:
'where are the female artists?' The disadvantaged position could not be explained by a gender-based distribution of talent, or by innate modesty of women. It was the social circumstances in which equal opportunities to develop your talent were lacking. That grew male artists and barricaded female ones.
