From March 4 to 8, I was in New York with my partner Femke. As an art advisor I regularly visit art fairs. This includes the New York art fair The Armory Show, where Gallery Ron Mandos proudly showed the work of Esiri Erheriene - Essi. This artist often depicts ordinary moments in everyday life, yet painted exuberantly. That is precisely what this time demands from all of us: to exuberantly appreciate the ordinary, the domestic, the small circle of people surrounding us.
It was busy at The Armory Show, with many people packed together. This was pretty much the last art I've seen in the past seven weeks. On the plane back home Femke got a sore throat…
I am pleased our country is run by decent, thoughtful people. One could perhaps disagree with the policies of Marc Rutte and Jaap van Dissel, as they certainly do not (yet) regard artistry as a vital profession, but I still believe our Mr. President wants the best for us. You don't get that feeling everywhere.
