The three works in this series (monologue, dialogue and multilogue) show fragments of my research project ‘deconstructing spoken language’.
I focus on the non-verbal audible elements in speech, thus going beyond the sense of words and sentences as such. What is the meaning of intonation (doubt, certainty, questions, indignation etc.), tempo (speaking faster, speaker slower, silence etc.), rhythm and turn-taking in conversational situations? By making these elements visible, I want to discover whether we can give meaning to them.
The monologue is a lecture by the philosopher Jacques Derrida (1930-2004) who developed the philosophy of ‘deconstruction’ and who is one of my sources of inspiration.
The dialogues and multilogue are 'live-captured' spontaneous conversations.
