Schattendorf/Shadow village
In northern Italy, you will find the “shadow village” of Viganella. From November to February, for 83 days, the village lies completely in the shadow of the surrounding mountains. Since December 2006, a mirror has been placed on top of the mountain, 870 meters above the village.
This motorized mirror, measuring 8 by 5 meters, moves with the sun and reflects sunlight into the village. The idea for the mirror was initiated by Viganella’s former mayor, Pierfranco Midali.
