The starting point for Femke is one or more cameras and her studio. She regards her studio as her blank canvas. From this starting point, she intuitively builds and paints a backdrop of hybrid materials, ranging from canvas and paper to wood and paint. Tools lying around such as ladders, brushes and tape become part of the image and are silent witnesses to the working process. Femke adapts and manipulates the set by constantly moving back and forth between set and camera. By searching for lines, planes and patterns, the studio becomes a kind of playground where everything is subject to change. One thing is fixed, and that is her photo camera. From this vantage point, Femke searches for a harmonious image in which the lines blend seamlessly.
