'To Make Into a Bundle' by Bart Lunenburg explores the tension between destruction and repair through a series of wood sculptures. Saw cuts in the wood are inlaid with blackened wood, treated using the shou-sugi-ban technique - an ancient Japanese method of charring wood to enhance its durability and resistance. These dark lines evoke sutures, binding the severed pieces together. The work reflects on how material choices can stem from personal or aesthetic biases and considers the possibility of repair, both structural and symbolic.
