In 2004, Katrin Korfmann created Blue Octagon, a temporary installation in San Sebastián, Spain. An eight-sided structure frames the square, reducing its surroundings to a single, intense blue plane. Passers-by step into the space, their movements slowed by its enclosure. They pose, photograph one another, navigating a setting that absorbs their presence.
Four open portals cut the city into fragments. Four small, circular openings in the walls serve as discreet observation points. From outside, Korfmann quietly records what unfolds within the Octagon: moments of interaction, chance choreographies, bodies adjusting to the space. The gaze is reversed—what believes itself to be seen is, in fact, captured.
A video of the work will be shown on four screens in the exhibition Augenblick at Bradwolff & Partners in March 2025, with thanks to Beam Systems.
