Katrin Korfmann – Eisbach (2025)
In Eisbach (2025), Katrin Korfmann plays with movement, time, and the perception of space. The female surfer finds herself at the heart of the city, riding the Eisbach in Munich, a narrow, man-made river with a permanent wave – a rarity in nature. Here, surfing isn’t about chasing the next wave, but about the rhythmic repetition of movement and time. It’s an exercise in balance and surrender, where the surfer’s motion unfolds in layers, spanning multiple moments at once.
Korfmann explores our relationship with public spaces and the communities that emerge from them. In Eisbach, she doesn’t capture a single defining moment, but instead reveals a continuous flow of time and motion. The work creates a visual echo, where human, water, and city seamlessly converge. The surfer’s body blends with the city, just as the water flows and moves.
