For his project 'Hope', which will be presented to the public for the first time in Rotterdam, Vromans crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 2024. During this voyage, which followed the classic route between Europe and the United States, he spent days photographing the horizon. He captured key moments of the day, such as the transition from sunlight to mist and rain, and the shift from color to shades of gray and black. His aim was to evoke the universal emotions—ranging from melancholy and uncertainty to curiosity and hope—that have always accompanied people crossing vast oceans in search of a new life elsewhere.
By crossing the Atlantic Ocean, he sought to truly feel the physical distance between two continents while connecting with a deeply human story that stretches back to the beginning of time. Like the countless explorers, migrants, and dreamers who have wandered the earth in search of a better future, Vromans wanted to immerse himself in their experience. He felt that the long and slow days on international waters offered a rare opportunity to break free from the rhythms of modern life and confront the contrasts of the ocean: infinite and open, yet also intimidating and unpredictable. His journey became a meditation on the enduring human desire to move, to explore, and to hope.
