WVZ 338, 2019

WVZ (Werkverzeichnis) 338 belongs to a series of columnar sculptures in white glaze that Elmar Trenkwalder created in 2019 - 2020. A band relief has been applied to the lower part of the column that becomes increasingly plastic towards the top. Just below the top section, two humanoid shapes detach themselves from the colums and seem to be climbing upwards. They add a personal element to the sculpture because Trenkwalder used to be an avid alpinist who climbed a lot around Innsbruck and in South Tyrol. The column is crowned by two figures that have several mask-like faces.
