In my family, there are loud man and strong women. Women who have held the family
together, who have dealt with the difficulties of everyday life while men were out, working, drinking, and exploring. I have many memories of stories of my family, songs, and anecdotes that I heard since my childhood. These tales have shaped the way I look at the world, myself, and my family. I have learned from my family that being a human is hard, it takes courage, a lot of work, and faith to find your way in this life. Everybody has a story, there are many stories in our bloodline, many of which we don’t even know, and I find it tragic that many people die
without being able to tell anyone. I believe that our past forms who we are, and to have a better understanding of ourselves and each other, I think it’s both a collective and individual responsibility to deal with where we come from.
In my series Mother Don’t You Cry I go on a journey of understanding the past I come from, the lives that were lived before me, and the struggles and happiness that all formed the person I am today.
