'House on Stilts' is part of the overpainted photographs by Anastasia Samoylova — a new dynamic body of work. In autumn 2024, her overpainted photographs will be on view at a solo exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, US).
The project is an extension of Samoylov's acclaimed FloodZone and Floridas series, both of which examine the environmental and cultural landscape of Florida. A distinct feature is the lush vibrant colour of the works, a heaping dose of Miami's coral pink. Samoylova's application of the paint to the phot has synergy with the photo. It is barely distinguishable where her adaptation begins and ends.
In Samoylova's photography, she has always had a collage-like approach to combining visual information. This multimedia project is a natural progression.
