Installation of six lanterns with a soundscape, commissioned for Kunstenfestival Watou. On view from 6 July - 1 September.
Tell me is a new work developed by Sanne van Balen for Watou 2024. Together with a poem by Marjolijn van Heemstra (NL) and a soundscape design by Dijf Sanders and Linde Carrijn (BE), Tell me is a multimedia installation for the outdoors. Using landscape as a linguistic place to hold and convey meaning, the work questions the experience of everyday objects and environments. From these lanterns different voices sound into the area. These voices, borrowed from residents of Watou, poetically translate the human perspective on nature, landscape, and ownership. All of the voices are combined into a unique soundscape composition that allows the use of stops as the organ instrument provides. In Dutch the word ‘register’ holds two meanings: that of a ‘stop’ and ‘registers of language’. To blurr the meanings and use of the two words, the work transcends into a poetic way of experiencing music, sound art and daily street life.
