Die Sekretärin (The Secretary), 2022

Diederik Gerlach (1956) recently made a series of brush drawings in which he reinterprets well-known German landscapes as well as architectural nostalgia of former Eastern Germany. In Die Sekretärin a building of socialist functional architecture serves as a backdrop from which a surrealistically abstracted figure emerges. A long, loop-like arm crosses the composition, fingers grasp a pencil, while a wary eye and the pointing finger try to lure the viewer into what is happening outside the picture.
