During his career, Gerben Mulder (1972, NL) has developed an oeuvre that falls somewhere between figurative painting with traditional themes on the one hand and abstract expressionism on the other. He works directly and apparently unlayered with hard colors and often sharp, graphic brushwork. Flower still lifes and narrative scenes, traditionally contemplative in subject, become the expressive carriers of a strongly moving state of mind in Mulder's work.
