In the landscape series from the Marselis Forest in Denmark, we glimpse something and yet it eludes our intelligence and our inherent urge to find a unified totality. Eskerod has used old analogue film, exposed it and in a few cases even let it lie for years before developing it. The film emulsion has its own life and the captured moment changes with time as the colours and the contours blur. It is called a ‘material aesthetic’ when the medium is given a determining role in the aesthetic expression and when the artist dares to abandon the final expression to the random events that arise in his play with the material. But to a certain extent, the term applies to the same kind of abandonment as when the archer becomes one with bow, arrow and target; when the artist forgets himself and puts his ego aside to let the camera do the photographing and let the photograph happen.
