Roles Shifted, 2020

Susanna Inglada likes to expand her drawings into the three dimensional. In her installations she creates a kind of stage with props and characters that are put in the room. The viewer has to cross through this setting and is thus confronted with the emotions of the characters up close. She also creates corner pieces in which several people are included. Roles Shifted was created during her residency at the Accademia di Spagna in Rome in 2020, where she studied baroque art and the way women are portrayed by men. In Roles Shifted two men and two women are entangled in a struggle, stretching and bending their bodies. Interestingly none of them has eye contact with the other. The two women are still below but seem to gain momentum, pushing and turning the two men upside down.
