Marcel van Eeden works mainly in black and white with strong light-dark contrasts. When he draws in colour it is usually food, in his early work these were usually steaks, fruit or for example a packet of butter. In this drawing, Marcel van Eeden has depicted an old-fashioned box of Clarnico brand chocolates.
As always, the drawing is based on a photograph from before his birth year 1965, thus appropriating the time when he himself was not yet present. The title Machinery indicates Marcel van Eeden's efficient and accurate approach to this concept, or also that, like a machine, he is capable of producing/drawing anything he chooses.
