Fire Tapestry (Vuurkleed) is based on a work on paper of Henri Jacobs that has been translated into a jaquard woven tapestry produced at Flanders Tapestries. It starts at the bottom in a row of meandering stripes in red, pink and light brown colours that are separated by cream coloured lines. The light outlines and red stripes start to increasingly intersect in the course of the rug, creating a swirling pattern of flames that move horizontally and vertically upwards. Remarkably, this turmoil of heady flames is at second glance divided by twelve horizontal lanes that arrange and structure the pattern. An interesting and playful detail is a green and blue flame in the middle of the work that deviate from the red, pink and yellow colour variations in the tapestry.
